New Build Muskego Wisconsin from the Crew at ATGCC

A client recently approached us with a unique opportunity. They were in the process of working with a contractor for a custom new build and they wanted to tie in some custom projects from Against the Grain Creative Concepts that would bring a farmhouse vibe to their modern new build. They were not exactly sure how they wanted to incorporate the old-world feel of upcycled wood into their new home, so we sat down with them and helped them pick out three projects to deliver the aesthetic they were looking for.

After mapping out the projects that the team at ATGCC would complete, we met with the client’s contractor to see how we could work together to save both time and money. We were able to coordinate these projects so that everything would be installed as the contractor was completing his end of the new build. By working together, we were able to bypass any unnecessary construction for both parties, ultimately giving the client the most value for their custom new build and their custom projects from ATGCC.

The first custom project was a beautiful, rough sawn mantel that we finished with Fiddes and Sons Rugger Brown Wax. The barn wood itself came from a barn teardown in Burlington and the final piece measured 6x8 84 inches long.

The second custom project on the agenda was to add barn wood beams in a tray ceiling concept. The beams measured 6x8 and we were able to work with the contractor to have him install supports into the tray ceiling to hold the beams! It’s a joint effort! The finished product looks as though it was original, thanks to this collaboration. The holes that were used to mount the beams are actually filled with the original pins that were used to hold the barn together where the beams were sourced from. Fun fact, barns are not held together with nails as you would think. They are actually held together with pins, so this project truly is an upcycled piece, down to the hardware!

This project really came together when we added three, custom- made barn doors, also finished in Fiddes and Sons Rugger Brown Wax. The barn doors were sourced from Union Grove.

The final pieces all matched and created the character and style that the client was looking for. Coordinating with the contractor was a win-win for everyone and created the most value for this client’s budget and their home.
